Organist

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Clayton, MO is seeking a part-time organist to provide instrumental accompaniment for both congregation and choir. St. Mark’s has a strong musical tradition, with vibrant assembly singing, as well as choirs with high musical skill and extensive repertoires. The worship space is equipped with both a piano and a two manual Ott pipe organ.

An ideal candidate would be an excellent keyboard musician (piano and organ); have exemplary verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; have familiarity with current trends in liturgical practice; and thrive in a richly collaborative environment. The organist will work closely with paid church staff and a talented group of volunteer musicians. The organist will collaborate with the Pastor to choose weekly hymns and seasonal service music, drawing on the ELCA family of worship resources.

This position is part-time, with a commitment of 8-10 hours per week, including individual preparation and weekly rehearsal with the vocal choir during the program year. Additional time will be required for church holidays and festivals (e.g., midweek Lenten services, Holy Week, etc) as well as occasional services (e.g., funerals and weddings). Advanced training (either degreed or in-progress) is strongly preferred but not required.
