Worship Musician/Worship Music Coordinator

Westminster Presbyterian Church is seeking a Worship Music Coordinator. A theologically progressive, multi-cultural, multi-racial congregation seeks a Worship Musician/Worship Music Coordinator to create a new role. We are open to diverse musical styles and approaches. We have a pipe organ, a grand piano, and an electronic keyboard on site as well as some percussion instruments, 3 octaves of handbells with several willing and experienced ringers, and a small, experienced choir as well as some vocal and instrumental soloists in the congregation. We would encourage you to use any and all of the above as you see opportunities within the worship experiences that the pastor and worship musician will collaborate on weekly. The position is expected to be 20-25 hours per week and could be flexible to more or less hours as the role is created. Compensation is competitive and negotiable.

Weekly duties include but are not limited to:

  • Choosing music for weekly worship services
  • Playing music in worship and/or organizing musicians – both volunteer and professional – to play in weekly worship services
  • Collaborating with the pastor/head of staff in planning worship
  • With the Worship, Music and the Arts Committee, creating and managing the worship music budget
  • Overseeing the maintenance of church’s musical instruments
  • Overseeing the hiring of any professional musicians as needed/desired
  • Managing copyright responsibilities and necessary licenses for in person and online worship

Organist

Friedens United Church of Christ in Marissa, IL is seeking a part-time organist. 

Duties include playing organ on Sundays for our 10am worship services as well as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, mid-week Lenten services, and our Pre-Lenten breakfast. 

Position includes 4 paid Sundays off (except for Easter) for vacation time. 

Services normally consists of a prelude, 2-3 hymns , some short sung responses, and a postlude.

Organist / Music Director

Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Overland is looking for a musician who can fill the roles of organist and music director for the congregation. The position is part time (20 hrs or less per week, including Sunday and Monday services).

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. With the pastor, plan services for the regular worship of the congregation.
  2. Select music for and direct the church choir.
  3. Provide musical leadership for regular services, including 8:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services on Sunday, and 6:30 p.m. service on Monday, for midweek services in Advent and Lent, for special services during Holy Week and Christmas, and for occasional services such as weddings and funerals.
  4. Select songs for and lead the Praise Team.
  5. Maintain and have tuned the pianos and organ.
  6. The Organist/Music Director is responsible to the Pastor and the Board of Elders

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Must be proficient in organ and other keyboard instruments.
  2. Must have knowledge of and experience in Lutheran hymnody and choral music.
  3. Must live a life of Christian moral integrity.
  4. It is preferred that the applicant be a confessing Lutheran and have an understanding of Lutheran culture.

Organist


The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, 7401 Delmar, University City, MO is seeking an Organist. The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion is a welcoming and diverse community seeking to walk in the way of Jesus and to reveal Christ’s reconciling love in our city, nation, and world.

Time and Payment

  • 12-month part-time agreement
  • Compensation based on experience; salary based on a 10-hour work week. (Inclusive of all extra rehearsals and services. Also inclusive of the summer season when the Choir does not rehearse.)
  • Vacation, substitutes, and other considerations are negotiable.

Necessary Skills

  • Comfort and dexterity in accompanying a variety of musical styles from traditional
  • Anglican hymnody and chant, to contemporary pop, to Gospel.
  • Ability to accurately play piano and organ from printed scores
  • Mastery of organ techniques, including detailed registration and playing with full
  • pedalboard
  • Choral rehearsal and accompanying experience, including the ability to play vocal parts in open score format
  • Fluency with digital communication, and willingness to utilize church’s communication systems.

Additional Duties

  • Schedule tuning/maintenance of pianos and organs in the chapel, choir room, and sanctuary.
  • Share responsibility for the music library and the musical instruments of the Parish.
  • Actively assist in the recruitment of vocalists and instrumentalists
  • Participate in occasional meetings as assigned.
  • First Right of Refusal for all weddings, funerals, and other liturgical events at Holy Communion
  • Coordinate substitutes in coordination with the Director of Music.
  • Occasionally lead choral warmups, sectionals, or other rehearsals as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Rector and Director of Music.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Music with video production for online worship services, if necessary.

At the discretion of the Rector and under supervision of the Director of Music, you will be involved as a pastor, as an educator and as the principal keyboard accompanist of the Parish.

Music Director

Zion Lutheran Church in Valley Park, MO is seeking a permanent part-time Director of Music.

We are looking for someone to play the organ for our 9:30 am Sunday morning, 7:00 pm Monday Evening services and lead our choir and bell choir.

Music Director

Eden United Church of Christ in Affton, MO is seeking a Music Director that will lead and grow the congregation in our music ministry. We believe that person needs to be enthusiastic and a visionary who has gifts and skills in choral music education and direction. Accompaniment skills are an important secondary concern.

Primary Responsibility

Enhance the workshop service by the following:

  • Set a worshipful tone with organ and/or piano music.
  • Support the congregation in singing hymns and responses
  • Lead the choir or a soloist in special music
  • Continue to develop a variety of music and performance groups for all seasons
    • Integrate a keyboard when possible and appropriate
    • Coordinate a chime choir
    • Coordinate a children’s choir
    • Coordinate an annual seasonal cantata
  • Play gathering music before worship


Rehearse and direct choir as follows:

  • September – May (Mixed Adult Voices)
  • June, July and August – Recruit and arrange for special music during the choir’s absence
  • Set guidelines for rehearsal attendance and participation on Sunday


Participate in annual reviews with Personnel Committee.
Attend Worship and Music Team meeting monthly
The Music Director is responsible for securing his/her substitute musician when on vacation or unavailable.


Accountability:
The Music Director shall be hired by the church council officers with input from the pastor and is accountable to the pastor.


Job Skills:

Adequate knowledge of use of the Organ and Piano.

Plays the organ and piano proficiently.

Flexibility and personable nature to work with various types of people.

Schedule is negotiable but there is a minimum of 15 hours per week.

Organist (or Organist/Choirmaster)

St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, O’Fallon IL is seeking to find a part-time organist or organist/choir master to begin leading us in music as soon as possible. At present responsibilities include hymn and liturgical accompaniment for up to two hours per week (including warm-up) and an additional hour per week if choir practice involved. A brief monthly planning meeting with parish clergy and minimal time with the parish administrator for bulletin information is expected. Additional hours can be expected around Christmas, during Holy Week and Easter. Possible wedding and funeral work as well, and occasional mid-week services as available. Music Associate / Assistant Organist

First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, Missouri, is seeking a half-time (27 hours per week) Music Associate/Assistant Organist. First Presbyterian Church has a long-standing tradition of excellent music in both worship and concert, and this position will support the growing Music Ministry.

First Presbyterian has a 2013 Casavant pipe organ (61 stops/76 ranks), a 2007 Martin Ott pipe organ (one manual, 11 ranks), outstanding facilities, and an annual concert series. We also host several concerts for the community throughout the year.

The Music Associate/Assistant Organist must be highly skilled in handbell direction, organ and piano playing/accompanying, and computers/office duties. Our growing and vibrant Music Ministry seeks someone with a wide range of gifts to assist the Director of Music Ministries. The ability to work with both youth and adults is vital. This individual must be self-motivated and flexible, ready to meet the demands of today’s church as we reemerge from Covid-19. A Bachelor’s degree in Music is required.

Duties include:

            Direction of the three handbell choirs (September through May)

            Serve as rehearsal accompanist for the Chancel Choir (September through Pentecost)

            Accompany the Chancel Choir during worship on Sunday mornings

            Serve as organist for memorial services and weddings when needed and as

                        arranged with the Director of Music Ministries

            Serve as organist for the Christmas Concert

            Serve as Chancel Choir director in the Director of Music Ministries’ absence

            Serve as Administrative Assistant to the Director of Music Ministries

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Festus, MO is seeking an organist/pianist Duties include playing a prelude, postlude and accompanying congregational hymns on Sunday mornings from 10:30-12:15. Twice a year special services in the evening. Choir practices two Wednesdays a month from 7:30-8:30. Will also be accompanying individual soloists occasionally on Sundays.
