Mr. O’Donnell’s return to St. Peter’s coincides with the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the church’s Mander organ in 2001. \n\n\n\nThe recital is free\, and all are welcome. A gala reception follows the recital. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInternationally recognized as a conductor\, organist and teacher\, James O’Donnell has performed all over the world. Following a distinguished 23-year tenure as Organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey\, Mr. O’Donnell now holds the post of Professor in the Practice of Organ at Yale School of Music and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music in New Haven CT\, where he succeeds Thomas Murray as professor to graduate organ majors and other students in sacred music. In addition\, he directs a newly formed professional liturgical vocal ensemble at Yale University\, The Yale Consort\, which will serve as a model and a vehicle for study for students preparing for careers in church music and liturgy. \n\n\n\nIn his tenure at Westminster Abbey Mr. O’Donnell was responsible for all musical aspects of the Abbey’s work\, training and conducting the Abbey Choir in its daily choral services\, recordings\, concerts\, and broadcasts and at the great national occasions for which the Abbey is known\, including directing the music for the September 2022 State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II\, which was broadcast live throughout the world to an estimated audience of over 4 billion people.  He has toured extensively with the Choir of Westminster Abbey to the United States\, the Far East\, Australia\, and Europe. Prior to his appointment at Westminster Abbey\, Mr. O’Donnell served for twelve years as Master of Music at Westminster (Roman Catholic) Cathedral where under his direction the renowned Cathedral Choir made many recordings and won the coveted Gramophone Record of the Year award\, unprecedented for such a choir. \n\n\n\nJames O’Donnell began his studies as a junior exhibitioner in organ and harpsichord at the Royal College of Music. He then studied for a degree in Music at Jesus College\, Cambridge\, where he was Organ Scholar. Over the course of his career he has played concerts in the United States\, Japan\, Australia\, New Zealand and throughout Europe. Recent engagements have included solo recitals in Sydney Australia\, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival\, Cologne Cathedral\, and Dresden Kreuzkirche\, as well as appearances in Italy\, the Netherlands\, and many venues across the United States.  He has appeared as soloist in the BBC Proms\, most recently in Poulenc’s Organ Concerto which he has recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Royal Festival Hall in London. \n\n\n\nAs conductor and soloist James O’Donnell has worked with many of Britain’s leading ensembles. He continues as Music Director of the London-based period instrument orchestra St James’ Baroque and appears regularly with the BBC Singers and other ensembles. He is also Visiting Professor of Organ and of Choral Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music\, of which he is also an Honorary Member. Among his honors and distinctions he was President of the Royal College of Organists 2011–13\, elected an Honorary Fellow of Jesus College\, Cambridge\, awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Music by the University of Aberdeen\, and Honorary Fellowship by the Royal College of Music. \n\n\n\nIn January 2023 James O’Donnell was appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) by King Charles III in the New Year Honours. SUMMARY:Organ Recital: Paul Fey
DESCRIPTION:Paul Fey\, Organist \n\n\n\nSunday\, October 11\, 20267:00 p.m. \n\n\n\nWebster Groves Presbyterian Church45 West Lockwood AveWebster Groves\, Mo. 63119 \n\n\n\nFree and open to the public \n\n\n\nWebster Groves Presbyterian Church is part of his U.S. Concert Tour \n\n\n\nPaul Fey is a German concert organist and composer who has rapidly emerged as one of the most distinctive voices of a new generation of church and concert musicians.  \n\n\n\nHe studied organ with A. F. Kipping and later with Stefan Kießling\, former Assistant Organist of the Thomaskirche Leipzig\, one of Europe’s most renowned centers of sacred music. Alongside his musical training\, Paul completed a three-year professional apprenticeship at Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR)\, Germany’s public broadcasting network\, before enrolling in church music studies at the University of Music in Halle (Saale). Since then\, he has worked full-time as a concert organist\, composer\, and recording artist. \n\n\n\nPaul Fey has held the position of repetiteur for the Kurrende groups at St. Thomas Church (Thomaskirche) in Leipzig\, working closely with the historic children’s and church choirs of the Thomaskirche tradition. This role deepened his grounding in liturgical repertoire\, choral accompaniment\, and the great German sacred music heritage. \n\n\n\nAs a performer\, Paul Fey has appeared at some of the world’s most significant organs. He has played the legendary Boardwalk Hall Organ in Atlantic City – the largest pipe organ ever built – and has performed at St. Peter’s – the Vatican – during a Papal Mass for Pope Leo in Rome. His concert activity has taken him to churches\, cathedrals\, and concert halls across Germany\, Italy\, the Netherlands\, the United Kingdom\, and the United States\, where he is increasingly in demand as a recitalist. \n\n\n\nParallel to his concert career\, Paul Fey has become one of the most widely followed organists of his generation through his online presence. His YouTube channel reaches over three million viewers every month and attracts a global audience from Europe\, North America\, and beyond. Through professionally produced performances\, improvisations\, and original compositions\, he has introduced countless listeners — many of them young — to the sound and expressive power of the pipe organ. \n\n\n\nAs a composer\, Fey has published numerous collections of organ music for Advent\, Christmas\, Easter\, Lent\, weddings\, funerals\, and general church use. His works are performed worldwide and are known for their strong melodic character\, clear harmonic language\, and immediate practicality for working church musicians. He is particularly admired for writing music that is both artistically expressive and directly usable in real liturgical and concert settings. \n\n\n\nPaul Fey’s artistic identity stands at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Deeply rooted in the great European organ heritage\, he combines this with a contemporary sense of communication\, digital media\, and audience connection. Whether in a cathedral\, a concert hall\, or a broadcast to millions online\, his playing is marked by emotion\, lyricism\, and a powerful sense of musical narrative — bringing the organ to a new global audience in the 21st century.
