The Church of St. Michael & St. George is seeking an Assistant Organist / Choirmaster. The Assistant Organist and Choirmaster will be a key player in continuing the music program’s growth and function and be instrumental in the organ project for a new instrument in the nave. The successful candidate will possess excellent skills as a church musician, including accompanying, service playing, and improvisation.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist the Organist/Choirmaster in the running of the CSMSG music program
- Play at all services requiring organ music
- Share with planning and playing organ voluntaries at services
- Accompany both the Chorister and Miriam choir rehearsals
- Share in playing for weddings and funerals (for separate fees)
- Play for special services as needed (ordinations, etc…)
- Assist in recruitment for choristers and choir programs
- Assist in annual fundraising for Chorister program to attend RSCM Summer Camp or other activities
Candidates should:
- Be committed and energetic and have passion for Anglican church music
- Have outstanding skills as an organist and in improvisation
- Have experience as a church musician
- Have the ability to be flexible and ability to sight-read repertoire (organ and choral)
- Have strong interpersonal skills and organization
- Have experience in accompanying at a high level
- Have experience as a church musician in the Anglican choral and liturgical tradition
Other information
- Desired start date is August 2022
- Position is 1/2 time and will be compensated $45,000 per year
- Candidate will receive 4 weeks (Sundays) off per year
- Organist/Choirmaster will help Candidate find other small accompanying positions at several higher learning institutions and private schools if they so wish.
