John Powel Walsh fell in love with the beautiful Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis and it’s mighty Kilgen Pipe Organ while attending the quarterly recitals given by Dr. Mario Salvador in the 1960s. Later in high school, he had the opportunity to study on that same instrument with Dr. Salvador. John continued his study of organ with Dr. Ronald Arnatt at the University of Missouri, Saint Louis where he completed his Bachelors degree in music. While completing his Masters degree in organ performance at Washington University he had the opportunity to study at the Harlem International Summer Academy for Organists in 1975. Additionally, John studied conducting and voice coaching with Dr. Joseph Beck. John’s career in music has included being organist and harpsichordist with the Bach Society of St. Louis, the St. Cecelia Consort, the Ronald Arnatt Chorale (St. Louis Chamber Chorus), and as guest organist with the St. Louis Symphony. John also was organist for the visit of Pope John Paul II to St. Louis in 1999. Presently John serves as organist at the Saint Louis Abbey and Priory School and as accompanist for Central Reform Congregation and the American Kantorei at Concordia Seminary.
In addition to singing, Scott is the Executive Director of St. Louis Cathedral Concerts.
