A celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Hradetzky organ at the Abbey Church of St. Louis.
The program illustrates the intimate relationship between the organ and the choir on examples of the Mass settings – from unaccompanied Renaissance choral writing, the most important source and inspiration of early organ music, through alternatim style in which the organ functions as a surrogate of the choir, to 20th century composition with a full and independent organ accompaniment. Works by Marcin Leopolita, Claudio Merulo, Jean Langlaise, and Claudio Monteverdi.
