Cathedral Concerts – Organ and Brass Spectacular

April 21 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Experience the thrilling sounds of the Great Cathedral Organ combined with the French Horns of the St. Louis Symphony as we present and Organ and Brass Spectacular, Friday, April 21 at 8:00pm.

Organist Andrew Peters from Second Presbyterian Church will be joined by Roger Kaza, Thomas Jöstlein, Christopher Dwyer, Tod Bowermaster, and Julie Thayer from the St. Louis Symphony.

The concert program features the premiere of 3 new pieces and other wonderful organ and brass music including:

“City Limits” by Philipp Blume (premiere; new work for five horns)
“Allegro” from Six Organ Pieces by Frank Bridge (organ)
“Nocturne” by Franz Strauss (one horn and organ)
“Pastorale” by Katherine Kennicott Davis (organ)
“Returning Home” for alphorn and two horns by Douglas Hill (premiere; commissioned by Thomas Jöstlein and the Meir Rimon Commissioning Fund of the International Horn Society)
“Prelude” from Suite by Adolphus Hailstork (organ)
“Romanza” in memoriam Philip Farkas by Randall Faust (five horns)
“Mourning Blues” by Fredrik Sixten (organ)
“Pur Ti Miro” from “L’Incoronazione di Poppea” by Claudio Monteverdi; arr. David Thompson (two horns and organ) 
 “Rest” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; arr. Jeff Lang (five horns) 
 “Clair de Lune” by Sigfrid Karg-Elert (organ)
“Feierlicher Einzug” (Festive Procession) by Richard Strauss; arr. Thomas Jöstlein (premiere; new work for five horns and organ)
