June 21, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:00pm on Tuesday, happening 4 times

Pack a picnic supper and come to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis this June for the annual summer carillon recital series. All recitals are free and open to the public.

The carillon at Concordia Seminary is one of only 170 such instruments in North America. The 49 bells have been played atop Luther Tower since 1971, and are dedicated to all pastors who have served The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

Recitals will be held on the following dates:

Tuesday, June 7, 7 p.m. — Karel Keldermans, carillonneur
Tuesday, June 14, 7 p.m. — Karel Keldermans, carillonneur
Tuesday, June 21, 7 p.m. — Sharon Hettinger, carillonneur
Tuesday, June 28, 7 p.m. — Karel Keldermans, carillonneur

At each recital, a student host will answer questions about the Seminary, as well as take interested guests to the top of Luther Tower, the 120-foot structure that houses the carillon, designed by architect Charles Klauder and dedicated in 1966. Guests also may meet the carillonneur after each recital.

Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy in the Main Quadrangle or on the Seminary grounds near Luther Statue. In the event of rain, guests may gather under the archways and tower. The concert will continue unless the carillonneur feels it is unsafe.

Concordia Seminary is located at 801 Seminary Place in Clayton, Mo.
