St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, located in Southeast Texas, is a welcoming and missional community of believers committed to sharing the love of God through Jesus Christ. We seek an innovative and enthusiastic full-time individual who will build and grow a vibrant ministry of music. Working with the Senior Pastor and the Worship Committee, the Director of Music Ministry will plan, develop, and implement a wide range of music experiences for worship services. Candidates should have experience and a passion for directing vocal and instrumental groups, as well as other music ministries and events. There will be an opportunity to establish a music academy on our campus if the candidate chooses to supplement income.
Builds the music ministry at St. Andrew’s through recruitment (both within and without the church), scholarships, new programs, and community involvement.
Directs the chancel choir and is responsible for all musical programs and worship services as determined by the Senior Pastor.
Interacts on behalf of St. Andrew’s with directors and musicians from other churches, the community, and Lamar University.
Selects or approves music for all programs and worship services along with the Senior Pastor.
Performs administrative tasks such as: preparing and managing an annual music budget, providing rehearsal and performance schedules, and providing regular communication and reports to appropriate committees or church media.
Provides for the maintenance, repair, and storage of all church-owned instruments. Instruments include a Schantz pipe organ, a Steinway grand piano, a harpsichord, timpani, seven octaves of hand bells, chimes, and several upright pianos on the church campus.
Requirements for the Position:
Bachelor’s degree in music or demonstrated experience and fervor for directing vocal and instrumental groups.
Excellent interpersonal skills and an enthusiastic, optimistic, and collaborative spirit necessary for building relationships and growth.
Ability to work with the senior pastor in planning and executing various musical styles for multiple kinds of worship services.
Administrative, organizational, and leadership skills to conduct the music ministry.
Proficiency in piano and keyboard.
Experience in the use of technology in worship.
Salary: $35,000 – $40,000 a year plus a benefits package and an opportunity to supplement income by establishing a music academy on the church campus
