Messiah Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri is seeking applicants for a part-time Director of Music Ministries and a part-time Organist. These positions may be filled by a single individual who can serve both roles, or by two individuals. Messiah is a multi-cultural, multi-generational congregation that values reverent and vibrant worship. Currently, the music ministry includes a handbell choir, adult choir, brass ensemble, individual solos, and small ensembles. A new, state-of-the-art Rodgers organ was recently installed. Director of Music Ministries
- Plan, organize, and execute Messiah’s comprehensive music ministry to provide a thoroughly rehearsed, quality, and musically-engaging worship experience.
- Provide coordination of ensembles, children’s music ministry, any guest musicians, and groups to enhance the worship service and encourage participation by members of the congregation.
- Administer the business affairs in collaboration with other music staff of the music ministry of Messiah, including developing music budgets, overseeing expenditures, projecting and supervising any capital or maintenance expenses (e.g., organ tuning), and maintaining and organizing all music supplies, equipment, and instruments.
- Use his/ her time wisely. Given 10 weekly work hours, 2.5 hours are to be spent on Sunday mornings for 10 a.m. service, 4 hours are to be spent planning, organizing, and rehearsing ensembles, 1.5 hours are to be dedicated to staff meetings and administration, and an additional 2 hours are paid to cover seasonal worship needs (e.g., Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter).
The Director of Music Ministry should have Bachelor’s degree and experience in liturgical worship and coordinating and developing worship groups. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Music is preferred, but not required. The candidate must be a team player and be able to work well with all staff and to mobilize volunteers and musicians of all abilities to further Messiah’s music ministries.
