Assistant Organist & Director of Music

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in St. Louis, Missouri seeks a part-time (8-15 hours per week) Assistant Organist and Director of Music. St. Peter’s is the second-largest congregation in the Diocese of Missouri. The Parish values organ and choral music in the Anglican tradition and has a history commissioning new music.

Alongside the Director of Music, the Assistant Organist will accompany for and assist in the direction of the semi-professional St. Peter’s Choir, the RSCM-affiliated Chorister training program, and the sixteen-voice professional St. Peter’s Singers.

Typically, the Assistant Organist is present for one Thursday rehearsal weekly, and six services a month.

The Parish instruments include a three-manual mechanical action organ built by Mander Organs, London; a four-stop Mander chamber organ; and a one-manual harpsichord built for St. Peter’s by Peter Tkach.

The successful candidate will be an excellent organist with choral accompanying skills and have some knowledge of choral conducting.

Recent graduates of organ or church music programs are especially encouraged to apply. This assistantship is an ideal position for such a candidate to develop professionally while continuing to grow musically through practical experience in a parish committed to the music of the Anglican choral tradition.

Salary range: $12,000-15,000, dependent on qualifications and experience
