May marks the end of the St. LouisAGO Chapter.s 2009-2010program year. We will meet atWestminster Presbyterian Church for anevening focusing on several events. Dinnerwill be served at 6:30 p.m. Following dinner,there will be an installation of incomingofficers and the Avis Blewett Awardceremony.

This year, theBlewett Award is beingpresented to corecipientsKaren andJohn Romeri. John isdirector of music andorganist at the St.Louis CathedralBasilica where he andKaren have servedsince 1992. He is alsothe director, office ofsacred music, for theArchdiocese of St.Louis as well as artisticand executive directorof St. Louis CathedralConcerts. He is asought-after clinician,often giving choralworkshops throughoutthe country and isa past dean of the St.Louis AGO chapter.Karen is assistantmusic director at theBasilica. She assistsJohn in all aspects ofthe Cathedral music program, as well asleading a busy handbell program. The AvisBlewett Award is given in recognition ofcontributions the Romeris have made tothe greater St. Louis musical community.

The evening will conclude with a play,The Old Organist, by Henry Arthur Jones(1851-1929). The author was a prominentEnglish playwright in his time and acontemporary of Shaw and Wilde. Thisdomestic drama/comedy finds a venerableblind organist terminated after 25 years ofservice due to his .innocently priminghimself . with drink before playing hisservice voluntaries. He is, without knowingit, succeeded by his daughter.s fianc andtheir conversationsprovide part of theplay.s comedy. Theplay will be presentedunder the direction ofNorbert Krausz. Thecast includes Ron Hall,Bill Stein, Max Tenneyand Vicki Carmichael.Musical accompanimentwill be providedby Andy Peters.
